Body of UC Santa Barbara student who went missing in Big Bear Lake found
The body of a 22-year-old UC Santa Barbara student who went missing from Big Bear Lake over the weekend was found in water near a marina on Monday, May 19.
The search for Tanner Prentiss, who went missing early Saturday, began after he did not return to his rental cabin following a night out. Officials said he had visited Big Bear Lake with some friends and was last seen around 12:30 a.m. on the 4000 block of Village Drive and walked northbound toward Big Bear Boulevard.
Around 10:23 a.m. on Monday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Dive Team located Prentiss’s body in the water near the Pine Knot Marina in Big Bear Lake, a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department news release said. No foul play was suspected, authorities said.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tanner’s family, friends, and all those who are affected by his loss. The family is requesting privacy as they navigate through this tragic incident,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement.
Prentiss was a junior studying sociology at UC Santa Barbara, the student publication Daily Nexus reported. A resident of Santa Clarita, he was also a staffer of the Santa Barbara Snow Club, according to a post shared by the club.
