Go urges more aid for urban poor
SEN. Bong Go highlighted his efforts to promote laws and initiatives aimed at helping the urban poor by providing enhanced job opportunities, increased livelihood assistance, and better access to health care.
Go took part in a motorcade with fellow Duter-TEN senatorial candidates in Makati City on Monday.
"Many of our countrymen are venturing to the city to find work and support their families. We are here to listen, show support, and continue to provide compassionate service," said Go in Filipino.
Understanding the daily struggles of people from rural provinces who move to urban centers like Metro Manila in search of better opportunities, Go reaffirmed that his legislative agenda remains centered on the essential needs of the poor, particularly in health, livelihood, job creation, and food security.
"We must especially focus on the problems of health, livelihood, and food for our fellow citizens who are suffering in the city. That is the direction of our service," he said.
Go stressed that he and the rest of the Duter-TEN slate will continue to bring essential government services closer to the people, especially to the most vulnerable.
His legislative agenda centers on accessible and equitable health care. He is the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act (RA) 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which institutionalized one-stop shops designed to reduce the hospital expenses of indigent patients.
There are 167 Malasakit Centers across the country. The Department of Health (DOH) has reported that more than 17 million Filipinos have benefited from the program.
Complementing this initiative, Go continues to advocate for establishing Super Health Centers. These facilities are strategically built to provide primary care, medical consultations, and early detection services, particularly in underserved communities.
Over 700 Super Health Centers have been funded nationwide, 30 of them in Metro Manila alone.
Go also principally sponsored and is one of the authors of RA 11959, or the Regional Specialty Centers Act. This law facilitates the creation of specialty centers within existing DOH regional hospitals, aimed at decentralizing health care access and easing the burden on Metro Manila's congested medical facilities.
Go thanked Makati residents for their support during the motorcade and encouraged the public to rally behind candidates who carry forward former president Rodrigo Duterte's legacy.
He reiterated the importance of electing senators who prioritize the welfare of the masses and remain committed to building on the reforms initiated under the Duterte administration.
