Michelin adds three Los Angeles County restaurants to its California Guide

Ahead of the California Michelin Guide ceremony on June 25, the lauded dining guide announced the latest additions to its Golden State selection, including 13 new restaurants, three of which are found in Los Angeles County.

Among the local spots are Komal in Los Angeles (chef Fátima Juárez’s “little stall specializing in corn” with menu items like “a quesadilla lined with squash blossoms and sweet corn bound with melty quesillo,” according to Michelin), Somni in West Hollywood (chef Aitor Zabela’s re-opened, contemporary-Spanish eatery with dishes like mussel escabeche, gazpacho and “the iconic shiso tartare tempura”) and Vin Folk of Hermosa Beach (chefs Kevin De Los Santos and Katya Shastova’s contemporary-California spot noted for its mussels tart, “a riff on a pot pie with flaky pastry and seafood in a warm fennel cream,” and the half Jidori chicken).

The guide’s update also highlights other Southern California spots, including Atellier Manna in Encinitas, Lilo in Carlsbad and Tanner’s Prime Burgers and 24 Suns, both in Oceanside. A few miles up north, Michelin added Sungho in San Francisco, Ethel’s Fancy in Palo Alto, Eylan of Menlo Park and Kin Thai, Majka Pizzeria and Pho Momma, all three in Sacramento, to its Golden State guide.

Michelin, which adds new restaurants to its “recommended” section of its guides throughout the year, didn’t include any Orange County venues this time around.

Newly added restaurants could earn Bib Gourmand status, which recognizes restaurants that offer high-quality food at reasonable prices, or star awards, the tire brand’s celestial ranking system, considered to be one of the restaurant industry’s most esteemed awards.
